Product Description
The 16-amp 3.84kW OpenEVSE station is ready to plug into a common 3-prong Dryer Outlet, NEMA 10-30 outlet (240v 30amp), and it works with all production EV’s on the road today. It offers faster charging and more features like a nice LCD at a far lower price than any of the competitors. We keep the price low by building this EVSE with a light weight 16amp J1772 cord, enough to charge any Electric Vehicle that has a 3.8kW on-board charger at max speed. This is the least costly OpenEVSE available!
It is perfect for customers who are tired of long slow charging with their stock “brick” chargers. I can speak from personal experience; my 2013 LEAF went from 24 hr charge time down to 5 hours! Don’t pay the dealer $1500 for an AeroVironment 30A charger with NO LCD that’s permanently on the wall. (That’s what many including myself have been quoted!) This Value version gives you all top of the line parts from the OpenEVSE store but at a low enter level price. I used the best LCD.. the RGB model that changes colors for different status and Real Time Clock that allows you to set a delay timer great for those of us that can sign up with discounted night time electric rates. I also added the optional Ammeter that shows current draw in amps right in the LCD, the EVSE keeps track of kW used per session as well as lifetime, with memory!
It will charge any J1772 compliant car at up to 16amps 3.84kW now, upgrade the input/J1772 cables in the future to higher amperage to give you faster charging speeds in the future, al while enjoying the premium experience of a OpenEVSE based Charging Station!
Flexibility:
The EVSE may be set in multiple steps between 6A-16A in 2 amp increments. This advertises the available current to the EV which intern draws what it is designed for. You can go into the menu and set it for less if you take the EVSE on the road with you to fit what you may find in the wild.
I can now customize the firmware to whatever values you like before shipping. I chose these values to give the user flexibility for various outlets found in the wild. I stop at 16A as this is what the J1772 cable is rated for. This unit is constructed with a 50 amp relay. It is built to plug into a common 10-30 Dryer outlet found in homes built before 1996. This EVSE can be upgraded with a higher amperage J1772 cable in the future to allow up to 24amps 5.76kW of charging from a Dryer outlet, if both the input and J1772 cables are upgrade this EVSE can offer up to 40amps while plugged into a 50amp outlet.

Customizable:
If you would like this unit customized with a twist lock plug for example or something other than what you see here I can do that for the difference in parts. For example a L6-30. This would allow you to use many adapters. I also build custom adapters, Please email me with your custom request.

New Tax Credit now available!
Federal tax credit for installing EV charging equipment. The tax credit for EV charging equipment is officially called the Alternative Refueling Tax Credit (IRS Section 30(C)). For Consumers, this allows for a 30% tax credit up to a total of $1,000 on EV charging equipment, including installation. The IRS will provide new forms for this tax credit early in the year. Please check with your tax accountant to verify that you qualify.
